the audience is listening in awe
forgotten my lithium at home
the whole world laughs with me
one bean too many
my contacts saved my life
the wolf discovering he was cursed

smileys to lighten up my day

2007

Someone recently mentioned how she liked the humour
in my visual works. I was secretly disturbed because
most of the images I created were made out of pain.
Even when I see them now I could
remember all the pain.

But maybe there's something that filters out
those pain and just leaves the humour out for people to see.
Maybe that filter is also the reason people often say that
I have a bubbly personality — which I don't really agree with.
I'm more of a boiling heart.
Hm.
That's bubbly as well though.

Anyway.

This discrepancy made me decide to do things the other way around.
Instead of projecting pain in risk to be regarded as funny, now I simply
try to be funny, discreetly grabbing the chance to be regarded as painful.
On my way there, I kidnapped some smileys and
put them together to lighten up my day.

The smileys in Smileys to Lighten Up My Day are kidnapped,
but not stolen. The compositions are completely dependent on
the emoticons on Yahoo! Messenger website. If at one point
Yahoo! would decide to take the smileys out of their server,
this website will just be showing the shells, the broken links
to those emoticons.
